Furnace Road. On the left, the Gas Works; right, Morton Place and The Dandy's. Top: Irondale House, built originally as The Great Inn in 1790 hoping to cash in on the proposed Glasgow to Sanquhar Road which never materialised. The Ironmasters took over the building and it was renamed Irondale House, and where lived the Manager of the Works and latterly N.C.B. employees. The local doctor also lived here, and his surgery was situated at the rear of the building.
