Two little boys in 1974 built a rather large dam, not to feed a mill, but to sail a raft! They are Alistair McClure and Kenny Baird!!! The location was behind Bairds, near the village hall picnic area. The first dam built in 1973 suffered damage by high waters in the winter months, but was rebuilt in 1974. |

early 70s, Midge, Robert Thomson, Bobby Baird, Geordie Thomson,
Right: A rare image, of the time between the demolition of the old houses, and the building of the bowling green. The date perhaps could have been around 1973. The old playpark complete with roundabout can be seen in the centre of the photo. |
Photo Kenny Baird This fuzzy old image is the old garage Tom Lorimer was in for a time, until it was demolished to make way for a modern day bungalow in the late 70s, home to the Drummond's in 2006. At the left, a lane went past the side of the garage, to the house by the waters edge. This was known as Skittery Lane. The tin garage at the left of the main building, used to be used for some of the locals to house their cars. One local worthy, "Wee Harry" Girvan, spent a time in that garage, sawing up an old car of his, and putting it in the bin, piece by piece! |
