Left: Cleugh Cottage
by Sorn Castle, on the left as the building is today. There has recently
been extensive refurbishment of the old cold house. Exactly when the
additional storey was added is at present uncertain. Right: Before the extra storey was added. |

Left: A postcard of
Cleugh Cottage, when it was a single storey cottage. Right: The Lady's Walk Bridge, a walkway which once spanned the road just before coming into Sorn from the Mauchline end. The Lady's walk was as it suggests, a walk which the Ladies from Sorn Castle used. The bridge pictured here saved anyone crossing the road, to access the Lady's Walk, the path through the wood at the Mauchline side of the Cleugh Burn. The old car is parked in the Cleugh Cottage car park, and the women in the picture are Ada Lees, Mary Lamont, Esther Lees. The old car belonged to Alan McKerrow, who lived in the Cleugh Cottage. That gentleman was killed at Mounthilly in a car accident. (Mounthilly is the dip between the Smiddyshaw crossroads, and Shield Farm roadend.) |
