Two views of the old Main Street looking West.
Left: On the left, the big stone this side of the entrance which led to Sandbed,
is remembered by Chris Lees as the stone that helped "Auld Wullie Piper" onto
his pushbike. He apparently had a bike that was far too big for him!!

Three views taken from the left hand image, of Main Street, looking west. The
left hand image, the full image, taken from just to the east of the current
Old Folks Cabin, which at the time of the photo was Catrine Cooperative Society,
or known locally as The Store. The centre image shows a close up of The Store,
and the image on the right shows the centre of the photo, and includes the ESSO
sign at the filling station on the Main Street across the road from the Sorn
Inn.

The people on the left foreground are Davie and Kate Cameron.
This image is so clear, a sample has been taken out of the centre of it, which
is the image on the right.

Left: Looking towards the Sorn
Inn, taken in 1958 or so. On the older shot above, the single storey house three
down is thatched. This is the white house on the right of the newer image on
the left. The writer remembers it in the late 60s, as that of Joe Rae, who moved
to Beith. Joe was at one time seen sitting at his front window at nights reading
from the light of the street lamp at the from door. This was because his living
room light bulb had fused, and he refused to buy a new one. He was a woodwork
teacher, and the school he worked at was in the process of changing from bulbs
to strip lights, and Joe was promised the old bulbs!! Right: A view from across the river, looking towards the Sorn
Inn, which is the white building, half obscured, towards the right of the photograph.
The Inn is only half it's current size, as the house on the right of it is half
a storey less. This is the building to which half a storey was added, and became
part of the Inn.

Main Street at dusk in late summer 1998, before the dramatic fire which burned
the pub down, and a view from farther up the street, similar to the top left
image above.

Amazingly, these three images are of the same view. Left: Logan House, which was demolished in the late 60s or
early 70s. Right: The same image as centre, taken in early 2002

A photo taken for a newspaper article in 1976, which unfortunately is just scanned
from the newspaper. The originals have been lost. Notice the mini bus at the
old garage, which at the time belonged to Tom Lorimer. The petrol station beyond
that was also Tom's, which by this time was selling ICI petrol, and at one time
was the cheapest in the area. Further beyond is the Shell sign on the second
filling station in the village. Now there are no filling stations in either
Catrine or Sorn.

These are four different views of what was
called Logan House. If you look closely at the banners and flags, they are different,
from the image below right. The old Police station was in the Main Street, and
can clearly be seen as the house with the notice board at the right hand side
of the front door. John Black was the last policeman to be stationed in the
old police station. Bottom:The image on the right, shows PC John Black leading.
In the doorway in the photo on the left, Jim and Nancy Nisbet are watching the
procession.

A street procession, outside Logan house, from a different time than the other
images. In the doorway, is Mrs Harrison.
