Left: The row of houses is long gone. At
present this view from the New Bridge would show Gilbert Shield's garden, and
house, a modern bungalow. Note the postcard wrongly says Stepends!
Right: Another similar, though clearer view. The building running
at 90 degrees behind the Sandbed Row, is still standing, although the thatch
is gone, and the height has been reduced. The woman at the second door on the
right is "Granny Harrison". Geordie Cameron lived in the second house from the
left. The postmark on the back of this card is 1904. The small building left
of the main row with the thatched roof, was the tailor's shop. Ironically, the
modern bungalow in more or less the same location, belongs to Gilbert Shields,
who is a tailor.

Left: Sandbed in colour. The colouring of the old postcards
was an art in itself.
Right: The Quoiting Green area across the river from Sanbed.
There are houses in this little corner of the village now. The Sandbed row is
still thatched in this image, which suggests late 1800s.
