AYRSHIREHISTORY.COM PRESERVING THE PAST . . . . FOR THE FUTURE |
STREET |
Duke Street used to run from The Grand Hall to Kilmarnock Cross, before the Burns Mall was built. It is incredible to believe the mentality of a local authority of the day, allowing the sheer destruction of Auld Killie. The writer in 2011 is 48 years old, but can still remember the Auld Killie of the late 60's when the Standard Office was on the left, walking from The Grand Hall in to the toon. There was a Butcher's on the right, not far past Dick's Garage somewhere, and the pet shop was at the Cross, on the corner of Duke Street, on the right as you walked into the toon.. |
