THE RIVER AYR ICE BREAK UP DECEMBER 2010 |
CLICK HERE TO SEE / DOWNLOAD A 70 mB VIDEO OF THE ICE ON THE RIVER AYR BREAKING UP. The above video was taken in Sorn on 10th December 2010. The River Ayr was awesome to see, with the ice flow during the break up of the first freeze up. The second ice sheets broke up on the morning of 28th December in the early hours, and thus was not filmed sadly. Last winters break up also took place at night, and only very limited movies could be taken, see 2009/10 page. The video format is divx .avi, and will play in VLC player amongst others. Did anyone catch the ice pack below going through Auld Ayr when it broke up??? |
This
was the River Ayr in Sorn on 10th December 2010, at 2.30 in the afternoon.
The first two photos were taken around 1425 in the afternoon. After
hearing a loud rumbling sound upstream about 1430, and running down
to the rivers edge, a sudden ice mass was seen. Unfortunately the cameras
had only just been put back indoors to try and heat them up a bit /
dry off, so the initial surge although witnessed, was not captured on
film sadly. Anyway, incredible as it is, the first two images were taken
within about five minutes of the rest!!! |
