SORN CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTMENT 1985 / 1986
Sorn village was the location chosen for the re-enactment of a great battle, in the years of 1985 and 1986. I have heard many discussions in the past about the years, but we have provided some documented evidence on these pages to verify that it was 1985 and 1986. I am looking at the dates, and see the advertising poster for 1985 shows that it was 1st and 2nd June 1985. That is quite early on in the summer. I would have lost money on that one. But have a look through the brochure for 1986, and see if you can find a date other than "86" anywhere. What a serious over sight. I have such fond memories of both years, but more so 1986, when I was assisting with the catering with a bunch of friends, who had the burger caravan and tent on the camp site in the Sough Park, opposite the Castle. What a mad weekend. From burgers in all the fridges of friends, to money that had disappeared, turning up below a floor for safe keeping!!!! And an abandoned burger caravan left in the field for what seemed like weeks afterwards. There was sadly no photos taken I don't think of the group, but the little caravan may be the one seen in one of the photos of the stalls below. There are various photos in the ayrshirehistory.com archives that have never seen the light of day, so seeing as there seems to be some enthusiasm to do some work to this site, I shall find what I can. You can click on the image on the left below, and download a pdf of the brochure from the 1986 battle. |

Sadly a piece of this cutting is missing, but it dates the event to August 23rd and 24th 1986. Amazingly, the tourist board booklet failed to mention a date. A date is always nice when looking back years later to an old booklet. |
