THE JOLLY BEGGAR'S
- A CANTATA BY ROBERT BURNS
John was instrumental in organising some music during the evening the BBC recorded their footage in Poosie Nansie's in 2008/9, for the Burns 250th anniversary celebrations in 2009. At Mauchline 2011 Holy Fair, John and his group released their DVD, THE JOLLY BEGGAR'S - A CANTATA BY ROBERT BURNS. This colourful and controversial piece is performed in the place of it's inspiration, Poosie Nansie's Inn, in downtown Mauchline, and is performed by local people. What makes this dvd unique is the fact that this production has never been filmed before in the place that our famous BARD wrote about, with the bonus of local people that love his works, speaking in the dialect that he once used. The DVD also features an interview with John McAtee himself, chatting about the Jolly Beggars. John's group would also like to express their gratitude to Poosie Nansie's Landlady, MARION. Without her help, their interpretation of the JOLLY BEGGAR'S CANTATA could never have gone ahead. The DVD is for sale over the bar in Poosie Nansie's in Mauchline, or by calling 01290 552584.
