The site of the Elbow Tavern near the Bleaching Green/ Knowe
area of Mauchline. While not particularly prominent in the JTG
book page 22, there is a white haired man with a long beard seated to the
right of the image. It is thought to be Sandy Marshal of Mauchline, pictured
elsewhere on this web site outside Nanse Tinnock's. Sandy was according to JTG
book, the veteran authority during the latter years of the 1800s on all things
pertaining to Burns in the district. One should note that the kirk spire is
broken on this image, thus it dates alongside two other images on this web site.
To date these images we have to be sure this is Auld Sandy Marshal, and if it
is, the images predate 1897, the year of Sandy's death.
