Photo - Willie Lyle, Mauchline
A sample of the previous image, showing the loaded cart, perhaps on the way from Mauchline station to deliver raw materials to some of the industry at the time. This is also a good shot of the previous houses which were on the present site of The Jean Armour building, and Geordie's Video Shop. In days of old, when another storey was added to a building, sometimes they did just that, but sometimes the building was completely rebuilt from scratch. The archway into the Abbey Kirk can be clearly seen this side of the low houses. The Abbey Kirk was opened on 16th August 1884. If we can assume the archway was built at the same time as the kirk, this image dates from after this time.
