Thanks to John from Mauchline Castle/ Gavin Hamiltons House, this fine image of what was at one time called New Street has come to light. The Ayr Road side of Loudoun Street taken from close to the Loudoun Arms. This image remarkably was part of a piece of Mauchlineware, tartanware to be more accurate. It is a rare image of this part of Loudoun Street where the present day paper shop is, on the left. It also shows the small low thatched dwelling houses beyond the "paper shop", where today stands a double storey sandstone block.
