From the John Taylor Gibb collection, we see Mauchline Castle (right) & Gavin Hamilton's House Pre 1895. The clear area is the site of the current day church halls, which opened in 1895. This image was used on Page 20 of JTG book. We can see a wall left of centre, which is quite possibly remains of what was in Burns' day, (Ref JTG book, page 20) a square of houses, one of which was The Black Horse Hotel. A close up of the old wall is seen in the next plate.
