Mossgiel, taken from the collection of John Taylor Gibb, but photographed just prior to alterations in 1870 by Mr Ballantine, an honoured citizen of Mauchline. Mr Ballantine was also leader of the brass band for many years, and I quote, a photographer of much skill. (JTG book page 54) The pile of stones in the foreground looks to be ready for the next stage of development.
