HOWFORD |
The old Howford Bridge lies in the shadow of the new Howford Road Bridge, and is a popular area for walkers and fishermen. It is also part of the River Ayr Way. The former through road, the old main road, has been blocked off in now for a number of years. In 2011, the road from the bridge to Catrine House is almost overgrown, and it is difficult to believe that it has been closed for such a short length of time. Was the closure to do with excessive dumping of rubbish in the area?? It has been said that none other than Jean Armour's father was involved in the building of this bridge. He is also said to have been involved with the building of Dumfries House and The Auld Brig at Stair. The toll Cottage on the right is believed to have been called Bridge Cottage. |
