MUIRKIRK from the High Weighs
Muirkirk Station in the foreground, with the Ironworks to the rear. The High
Weighs was a coal pit just above the Station on the old golf course road. The
remains of the shaft can still be seen. Also the ruins of the miners' row, which
was also situated there. The north-side waiting rooms and footbridge at the
station were dismantled in 1957.
The same image split and as a result resolution
is better.
Left: THE IRONWORKS: This photo was taken from the Slag Bing; the building in the left corner is Southside Gas Works, alongside the River Ayr Bridge.
Right: MUIRKIRK (taken from Tardoes): Wellwood Street is in the foreground, with the Ironworks to the rear.
